VICTORY PARTY! A victory in the struggle against wage theft

On March 9, 2012, José Ucelo was picked up for work by an employer at the Home Depot on Brookhurst in Anaheim. This employer introduced himself as “Nick,” which Mr. Ucelo later learned was an alias used by Michael Tebb, a serial wage burglar. The employer brought Mr. Ucelo to the work site in Garden Grove, where he worked approximately 10 hours. After the work was done, Mr. Ucelo asked for his pay, but “Nick” became aggressive, attempting to start a physical fight and refusing to pay. Mr. Ucelo backed away and called the police to report the wage theft. Ironically, Mr. Tebb at this point also called the police, falsely accusing Mr. Ucelo of theft. Multiple police officers arrived on the scene, and detained Mr. Ucelo, but not Mr. Tebb. Continue reading
