The Orange County clerk-recorder’s office is refusing to release a report prepared by Anaheim City Councilman Jordan Brandman that was originally due six months ago because it is still in “draft” form, raising questions about whether the councilman failed to fully complete the tasks of his taxpayer-funded contract while he was campaigning for office.

Brandman, who was hired as a staffer at the clerk-recorder’s office in 2011, resigned toward to the end of the year as his City Council campaign geared up. Continue reading→

As gang violence explodes in Anaheim, what should the cops do?

Two 19 year old youths have been stabbed in Anaheim in the past few days. One was innocent and the other was supposedly a gang member. Both appear to have been attacked by gang members.

Anaheim’s Latino population blew up this summer when police shot a young man who was fleeing from them. They said he had a weapon but none was found. He appeared to reach into his waistband but perhaps he was pulling up his trousers? Continue reading→

After getting thoroughly beat up (quite undeservedly in our opinion) by his City Council over the last few months, Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait is beginning his re-election campaign a bit early it seems with a significant Fundraiser this week. It was also a surprise to see Lucille Kring‘s name on the Host Committee given the hand grenade she left in his lunchbox last week when she stiffed his Assistant out of a ~~raise~~ paycheck.

Long before enlisting herself in Orange County’s labor wars, back when she was a high-school student at Mater Dei in Santa Ana, Denise Velasco got her first taste of political discourse. The polarizing winds of California’s anti-immigrant Proposition 187 were still gusting after its passage at the state ballot box in 1994, and Velasco was sitting in Spanish class when her instructor raised the issue. A white girl with impeccable Spanish spoke up. “Bueno, yo pienso que los ilegales no tienen derecho,” she said, “porque nuestros papás pagan impuestos.”

MAN SENTENCED TO 50 YEARS TO LIFE IN PRISON EXECUTION-STYLE SHOOTING-MURDER OF FRIEND USING A SHOTGUN

SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to 50 years to life in state prison for the execution-style shooting-murder of his friend using a shotgun. Peter Albert Baltazar, 37, Anaheim, was found guilty by a jury Nov. 1, 2012, of one felony count of first degree murder.
