Johnathan Suarez, a 32-year-old man from Los Angeles, will serve six years in prison after being sentenced on Monday, Feb. 1, for a DUI collision on the 5 Freeway in Anaheim nearly two years ago that resulted in the death of his passenger.
Suarez accepted charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, and driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of .08, on Nov. 20.
Suarez was driving a 2010 Toyota at about 2:50 a.m. on March 13, 2019, on the 5 Freeway near Euclid Street, when he slammed into a 2019 Freightliner box truck, according to the CHP.
Adan Aquino, a 28-year-old resident of Los Angeles, was in Suarez’ vehicle at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
