Anaheim’s Free Compost Giveaway
ANAHEIM, Calif. (March 10, 2016) — Compost is great for gardening, especially during a drought, by storing water in the soil longer and reducing runoff and erosion. Anaheim residents can receive up to 60 gallons of this rich soil additive at the city’s free Compost Giveaway on Saturday, March 19 from 7 to 10 a.m. at Honda Center. The eighth annual event will take place rain or shine.
To pick up the free compost, residents must bring their own containers (no bags please). Proof of residency is required (California driver’s license or Anaheim utility bill). The Compost Giveaway highlights the success of the city’s yard waste collection program and is thanks to a partnership between Public Works and Republic Services.
Residents can also compost at home with an Earth Machine bin and kitchen collector bucket, available for $20 at the event (cash or checks accepted). Call (714) 765-6883 or email rescobedo@anaheim.net to reserve your items.
