ANAHEIM, Calif. (January 14, 2015) In honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the City of Anaheim and Ponderosa Joint-Use Library are hosting a commemorative celebration on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. featuring Michael Bandy and Eric Stein, authors of the book White Water. Bandy and Stein will share their experiences of growing up in the South during segregation.
All are welcome to attend this free event.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day was signed into holiday law by President Ronald Reagan in 1983, 20 years following Dr. King’s assassination. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day commemorates the American federal holiday and birth date of Dr. King (January 15, 1929). In 1964 Dr. King received the Nobel Peace Prize for his leadership to combat racial inequality through nonviolence.
The City of Anaheim will observe the holiday on Monday, Jan. 19 by closing offices at City Hall and Anaheim Public Libraries.
