Hope University Presents: Christmas In The City

Please join us for Hope University’s 27th Annual Holiday Concert! It will be taking place at the Louis E. Plummer Auditorium in Fullerton (corner of Chapman & Lemon) on Thursday, December 18th, at 7pm. Doors will open at 5:30pm for holiday shopping at Hope University’s boutique, and seating begins at 6pm. This event showcases the talents of the students at Hope University, a non-profit fine arts program for adults with intellectual disabilities. Your purchase helps support our program and the artists of Hope University.

Hope University’s Holiday Boutique opens at 5:30pm, seating for the performance begins at 6pm. Show starts at 7pm, with 20 minutes for intermission. Approximate duration of the performance (including intermission) is 2.5 hours. Continue reading→

CITY OF ANAHEIM AWARDED FOR ‘TURNING RED TAPE INTO RED CARPET’

ANAHEIM, Calif. (November 24, 2014) The Orange County Business Council announced the winners of the 4th Annual Turning Red Tape into Red Carpet awards with the City of Anaheim garnering two recognitions at a reception at the Irvine Marriot on Sunday night. The awards program was developed to recognize leaders, policies, and programs in local government that eliminate barriers in economic growth and private sector jobs creation.

Anaheim received “The Award for Public-Private Partnership” for the establishment of the “the World Class Partnership” process. With its long history of completing large-scale construction projects to facilitate the millions of people that travel to and from the area, Anaheim developed this process to improve quality and efficiency to avoid re-occurring themes that negatively impacted the success of such projects. The process was applied to the $76 million Gene Autry Way Overpass Project in 2011 and is currently being used for the completion of ARTIC and the Anaheim Convention Center expansion. It has resulted in over $24 million in savings for taxpayers on its first project alone. Continue reading→

Honda Dealers to provide free gas today in Anaheim

As California’s average gas prices continue to race toward $3 a gallon*, the SoCal Honda Dealers are sending out their festive Free Gas Tanker Trucks starting today, Tuesday Nov 25th, to surprise holiday travelers with free gas as they hit the road in record numbers!

The Helpful Tanker Trucks will be traveling to various cities this Thanksgiving week through Christmas to fill up thirsty Hondas and other lucky gas tanks, giving residents another reason to be thankful.

Officials now admit that the ARTIC transit hub will lose money from day one

It turns out that the ARTIC transit hub might cost Anaheim residents a fortune – right from the start. Apparently Anaheim City officials have not yet secured a corporate sponsor willing to put its name on a transit station opening Dec. 6, leading to a potential operating budget shortfall for the next seven months, according to the OC Register.

What this means is that it will cost more than $3.6 million to maintain and operate ARTIC through the end of June, but only half of that funding is secured.

The really ridiculous part of this mess is that Anaheim never needed ARTIC. The train station at Angel Stadium was perfectly functional and user-friendly. Continue reading→

OC Residents Visit, Pledge & ‘Do the Right Thing’ at County Facilities

Hundreds of Orange County residents helped commemorate the 17th Annual America Recycles Day by bringing their household hazardous waste to the county’s free Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center in Anaheim.

The center is the largest of four HHW facilities operated by OC Waste & Recycling. The other facilities—in Huntington Beach, Irvine and San Juan Capistrano—also had a strong turnout of visitors on America Recycles Day. Continue reading→

MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR STABBING-MURDER OF HIS MOTHER’S BOYFRIEND OUTSIDE OF RESIDENCE IN ANAHEIM

SANTA ANA – A man is scheduled to be arraigned today for stabbing and murdering his mother’s boyfriend outside of a residence in Anaheim. Ruben Martinez, 27, Anaheim, is being charged with one felony count of murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon. It is alleged that the defendant has a 2009 prior strike conviction for carjacking, as well as a 2008 prior conviction for the unlawful taking of a vehicle in Riverside County, for which he served a prison term. If convicted, Martinez faces a maximum sentence of 52 years to life in state prison. The People will be requesting he be held on $1 million bail at his arraignment today in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on Nov. 16, 2014, Martinez is accused of stabbing 52-year-old Maximino F. multiple times in the torso region while they were outside a home in a neighborhood in unincorporated Anaheim. Maximino F. was the boyfriend of the defendant’s mother. The crime was reported to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) who arrived to the scene and discovered the victim’s body on a street near the home. The victim died as a result of his injuries. OCSD arrested the defendant at the scene. Continue reading→

MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES STABBING-MURDER OF CAFÉ EMPLOYEE WHILE VICTIM WAS CLEANING BUSINESS

WESTMINSTER – A man is scheduled to be arraigned today for the special circumstances stabbing-murder of a café employee while the victim was cleaning the business. Robert Gabriel Rodgers, 20, Anaheim, is charged with one felony count of special circumstances murder while lying in wait with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty. The special circumstances in this case make Rodgers eligible for the death penalty and the District Attorney will make this determination at a later date. Rodgers is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in Department W-2, West Justice Center, Westminster.

On the morning of Nov. 14, 2014, Rodgers is accused of entering the Volcano Tea House in Garden Grove prior to the business opening. He is accused of stabbing 24-year-old employee Cesar Ramirez-Raphael multiple times as the victim was cleaning the business. The victim died as a result of multiple stab wound injuries. A citizen outside of the business locked the defendant inside the café until the Garden Grove Police Department (GGPD) arrived and arrested the defendant. Continue reading→

Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at 11:00 A.M., the Anaheim Police Department will recognize ten Anaheim youths who demonstrated they will do the right thing! As part of the “Do The Right Thing” (DTRT) Program ten youths from across Anaheim will be recognized for their selfless acts including: a second-grader who assisted a non-English speaking student during his first weeks at school; a third-grader who held a backpack drive and provided 129 of her peers with new backpacks; a sixth grader who prepares meals at a senior citizen center; and a ninth grader who creates get well cards for sick children. This first recognition ceremony, hosted by the Anaheim Police Department and the Anaheim Chapter of Do The Right Thing, is being held at the Anaheim Police Department Training Auditorium and will begin at 11:00 A.M. Victim in Fatal Stabbing Identified

ANAHEIM, Calif. – (November 17, 2014) – On Sunday, November 16, 2014, Orange County Sheriff’s Department homicide investigators initiated an investigation following discovery of a male adult lying in the street suffering from multiple stab wounds. Ruben Martinez, 27, Anaheim, was detained at the scene and later arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing.

The victim, Maximino Fuentes Clara, 52, Garden Grove, was stabbed multiple times during a physical altercation with Martinez. Clara had a dating relationship with Martinez’ mother; however, investigators have yet to determine a motive for the attack. The investigation is ongoing. Continue reading→

Public Safety Agencies Showcase Communications Equipment & Mobile Command Vehicles

WHAT: The California Statewide Interoperability Executive Committee will be hosting an exercise in Orange County, with Los Angeles, Riverside/San Bernardino, and San Diego counties also participating. The purpose of this exercise, called the Multi Agency Regional Radio Interoperability Training Exercise, is to test the interoperable capability of radio communications equipment inside mobile command post vehicles. It will also provide a venue for first responders and emergency management employees to view the resources available in Orange County. Continue reading→
