High Speed Rail arrives at ARTIC Train Station in December!
$174 Million Glass Barn opens with new coffee shop in December!
Two weeks ahead of Christmas this year is this gift to the city of Anaheim from every Orange County sales taxpayer via Measure M and the OC Transportation Authority: Lucy Dunn’s Big Ass Train Station. Said Big Lucy in 2012,
ARTIC is an essential component to the investments of the Anaheim Convention Center, the greater Anaheim resort area, growth of the Honda Center, Angel Stadium areas and the surrounding commercial and residential development known as the Platinum Triangle. Transportation choices other than the personal car are critical to visitors – who spend their tax dollars here and then go home – and to residents who must otherwise endure congested roads, street parking and parking facilities at capacity. ARTIC is essential to securing a NBA team in Orange County, and enhanced transit services for Angels and Ducks fans across the region, serving more than 26 million annual visitors.
We’ll find out in December if Big Lucy’s exclusive Business Council or the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce or the city have managed to attract an NBA team (a quick look on ESPN finds the Kings have stayed in Sacramento, despite the efforts of some local hustlers like Mayor-for-Hire Curt Pringle to move them here). Still, as we wrote August last, ARTIC will have a brand new Coffee Shop — not an ordinary Starbucks for the masses, but a more sophisticated Lost Bean, all the way from Irvine.
ARTIC will also not have anything sensible like “Fly Away” bus service to either Ontario, John Wayne or Los Angeles International Airports. Such shuttles operate between Disneyland, LAX and ONT.
Even the idiots at the OC Grand Jury thought ARTIC was a justified investment of tax funds. We hope they’ll have a table full of chotskies at the Grand Opening.
Aside from an NBA team, what we also WON’T SEE in December is the excuse for which this $174 million debacle was built — Gov. Moonbeam’s High-Speed Rail that Curt and Lucy believe will be barreling into Anaheim from LA’s Union Station (and onto San Diego) if it can get over a hill. Is it ever coming?
When Lucy flies.
