Second Annual Block Party to be held on Saturday, October 4 at Fire Station No. 10
ANAHEIM, Calif. (September 23, 2014) – The most unpredictable and dangerous fire that you may ever encounter is a wind‐driven wildfire. That is why Anaheim Fire & Rescue encourages residents to be prepared in the event of a fire with Ready, Set, Go! – a community risk reduction program to better understand the elements related to a wind‐driven wildfire and how to increase property protection.
With fire season a year‐round reality and California’s serious drought conditions, Anaheim residents are encouraged more than ever to be prepared in the event of a fire.
The annual Ready, Set, Go! Block Party will be held from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 4 at Anaheim Fire Station No. 10 located at 8270 E. Monte Vista Drive with parking available along the street.
This event kicks off Fire Prevention Week (October 5 ‐11) and is just the place to learn about fire prevention.
Guests will enjoy a variety of interactive activities and displays including Disney’s Planes: Fire and Rescue who will have fun activities and games for the whole family. Residents will also receive information on wildland fire risk assessments and view safety products for home and property. A groundbreaking is scheduled for the Fire Safe Demonstration House in partnership with Brookfield Residential, and Anaheim Police Department will be on hand with their helicopter highlighting how the two departments work together during a major incident. Throughout the event, guests will have the opportunity to speak with fire department personnel on all aspects of fire prevention and disaster preparedness.
“Wind‐driven fires spread rapidly and are very destructive,” said Anaheim Fire Chief Randy R. Bruegman. “Our Ready, Set, Go! program encourages residents to learn how to protect themselves and their property.”
A new tool now available on the Department’s website is the interactive house program that illustrates the different steps that homeowners can take to protect their property from vegetation clearance to plant spacing guidelines. Residents are encouraged to visit www.anaheim.net/fire to learn more and ready their property against wildland fire.
“Anaheim Fire & Rescue is counting on our residents to know how to READY their property, Set plans for home survival and evacuation if needed, and be able to GO early when evacuations are ordered,” said Fire Marshal Jeff G. Lutz. “Every step that our residents take to prepare their homes creates a greater defense against wildfires.”
Representatives from the U.S. Forest Service and CAL FIRE will also be on hand to demonstrate how agencies work together to the benefit of the community in the event of a wildland fire. Guests will have the opportunity to meet firefighters and view fire apparatus including the Department’s latest Type 3 rigs used to combat wildfires. A demonstration will highlight how firefighters use hand tools to create a fireline by removing vegetation around the fire’s edge thus using water efficiently when it is available.
