Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva Endorses Dr. Jose F. Moreno for Anaheim City Council
(Anaheim) – The former Mayor of Fullerton and current Assemblymember of the 65th District, Sharon Quirk-Silva, has announced her endorsement of Dr. Jose F. Moreno for Anaheim City Council today. The 65th Assembly District includes Buena Park, Fullerton, Cypress, La Palma, Stanton, and parts of both Garden Grove and Anaheim. Assemblymember Quirk-Silva is a very accomplished and respected legislator and has represented Orange County well in the California State Assembly.
“Dr. Moreno will bring a fresh voice to the Anaheim City Council.” Quirk-Silva said. “As a father of 4 young girls and a professor, he wants Anaheim to be safe, our parks and neighborhoods to be vibrant, and our communities to work together to build a kinder, gentler Anaheim. A community where we all feel valued and where we can all feel good about what is happening in our neighborhoods.”

To date, Dr. Moreno has received the endorsement of several prominent Orange County elected leaders, organizations, and business leaders. These individuals include State Senator Lou Correa, North Orange County Community College District Trustees Leonard Lahtinen and Donna Miller, Former Assemblymember Jose Solorio, Anaheim Union High School District Trustee Al Jabbar, and Garden Grove Unified School District Trustee Bao Nguyen. In addition, Dr. Moreno has been endorsed by the Democratic Party of Orange County, making him the only candidate running for city council that has received a party endorsement. Several local business leaders who have endorsed Dr. Moreno include Bill Dalati, local small business owner; Brian Chuchua, the founder of the Anaheim Small Business Organization; and Rida Hamida, Executive Director of the Arab American Chamber of California, among others. Finally, numerous prominent community members have all announced their support of Dr. Moreno in his election bid to gain a seat on the Anaheim City Council.
Dr. Jose F. Moreno is currently the President of the Board of Education for the Anaheim City School District. He is also an Associate Professor at California State University, Long Beach, where he focuses on Latino Education and Policy Studies.
Dr. Moreno received his B.A. in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine, his Ed.M. from Harvard University, and his Ed.D. from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy.
Dr. Jose F. Moreno also sits on the Board of Directors for the Orange County Community Housing Corporation (OCCHC) which works to help extremely low-income families, with salaries under $10 an hour, gain greater self-sufficiency and lead enriched lives. He also sits on the Anaheim Police Department Chief’s Advisory Board. In 2007, he was honored as the Anaheim LULAC Citizen of the Year and recognized as one of the 100 most influential Latinos of Orange County in 2008 by Stay Connected OC-Emerging Markets Network.
A father of four beautiful girls, Dr. Moreno and his wife, Lorena Moreno, a Principal in the Long Beach Unified School District, are among the founding parents of the first Dual Language Immersion Program in Anaheim.
