PUBLIC IS INVITED TO ATTEND SEPTEMBER 11th REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY TO HONOR THE CIVILIANS AND EMERGENCY RESPONDERS LOST 13 YEARS AGO
Anaheim Fire & Rescue, Anaheim Police Department and AOCVCB will host the ceremony on the Grand Plaza overlooking Anaheim Convention Center
ANAHEIM, CA – (September 4, 2014) The September 11th Remembrance Ceremony is set to take place a week from today on the Grand Plaza in honor of the nearly 3,000 individuals that perished in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Residents, active and military personnel, visitors and first responders are invited to attend and pay their respects during the 30-minute ceremony which will commence promptly at 8:46 AM. Guests are encouraged to arrive at the Grand Plaza by 8:30 AM.
Anaheim’s first responders have joined together with the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau (AOCVCB) to host this ceremony with the intention that it becomes an annual event where both residents and visitors will take a few minutes to reflect on the September 11th attacks.
“13 years ago, our nations’ military and emergency personnel made the ultimate sacrifice even after recognizing that they faced a seemingly insurmountable challenge,” said Anaheim Police Chief Raul Quezada. “This ceremony will be a tribute to all the victims as well as an opportunity to honor those who serve our community and country today.”
“We should never forget the courage demonstrated by first responders and civilians on September 11th,” said Fire Chief Randy R. Bruegman. “This remembrance ceremony allows those who live or work in Anaheim as well as those that may be visiting an opportunity to pay their respects.”
The program will include the presentation of colors by a joint honor guard of Anaheim Police Department and Anaheim Fire & Rescue personnel, opening comments from Anaheim Police Chief Raul Quezada, and the “Last Alarm” Ceremony read by Anaheim Fire Chief Randy R. Bruegman honoring the lives of the fallen firefighters, police officers, and civilians who were tragically lost on that day. Police Chief Quezada and Fire Chief Bruegman will present a ceremonial wreath and pay their respects in remembrance of all of those who perished while demonstrating tremendous fortitude and perseverance to protect others.
Complimentary parking will be available at the Anaheim Convention Center (800 W. Katella Ave., Anaheim); guests are asked to enter the parking lot from Katella Ave. Grand Plaza overlooking Anaheim Convention Center
