Anaheim School Board President Dr. Jose F. Moreno Announces Candidacy for City Council
(Anaheim) – Current Anaheim City School Board President Dr. Jose F. Moreno announced his candidacy for the Anaheim City Council today after he filed his official paperwork with the city.
“I am excited to announce my candidacy and officially enter this race,” Moreno stated. “I am a proud husband of 15 years and proud father of four beautiful girls, a longtime Anaheim resident, active community member, and President of the Anaheim City School District Board, where I’ve served for eight years.”
“I believe that Anaheim’s blessings are its people and its resources. Our neighborhoods and our families are what set this city apart. I’m running because I want to bring engaged, honest, and accountable leadership back to City Hall. Residents and small businesses have been neglected. We need leadership that not only protects Anaheim’s fiscal stability but also creates responsible development, promotes public safety, ensures that our children have safe parks where they can play with their parents and grandparents, provides anti-gang afterschool programs, modernizes our infrastructure, and fosters high quality jobs that can sustain families.”
“During my time on the School Board, despite millions in state cutbacks, student achievement increased; schools were built and modernized on time and on budget; and innovative programs were developed in science, music, arts, and languages. As School Board member for almost a decade, I have a track record of working effectively with people across the city and the political spectrum to improve our school system. As City Councilman, I will continue those efforts to make Anaheim a work-class city for tourists, composed of world-class neighborhoods for residents.”
“I want our children to grow up in a greater, better Anaheim,” Moreno concluded. “We can, and we will, work together to help everyone thrive. Let’s make history together!”
Dr. Jose F. Moreno is currently the President of the Board of Education for the Anaheim City School District. He is also an Associate Professor at California State University, Long Beach, where he focuses on Education and Policy Studies.
Dr. Moreno received his B.A. in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine, his Ed.M. from Harvard University, and his Ed.D. from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy.
Dr. Jose F. Moreno also sits on the Board of Directors for the Orange County Community Housing Corporation (OCCHC) which works to help extremely low-income families, with salaries under $10 an hour, gain greater self-sufficiency and lead enriched lives. He also sits on the Anaheim Police Department Chief’s Advisory Board. In 2007, he was honored as the Anaheim LULAC Citizen of the Year and recognized as one of the 100 most influential Latinos of Orange County in 2008 by Stay Connected OC-Emerging Markets Network.
