NEWS ADVISORY: Officials to Celebrate Opening of Kraemer Boulevard Undercrossing
WHAT: Officials from the Orange County Transportation Authority and the cities of Placentia and Anaheim will celebrate the opening of the new Kraemer Boulevard undercrossing, which separates car traffic from the busy freight rail line. Kraemer is reopening to traffic after a more than two-year closure so that the $67 million project could be completed. Temporary railroad tracks were built south of the current tracks and now rail traffic is switching back to the main line. The project was funded by Measure M, the half-cent sales tax approved by Orange County voters, and state and federal dollars.
WHEN: 3 p.m., Tuesday, July 8
WHERE: 101 S. Kraemer Blvd. in Placentia, CA 92870
WHO: Scheduled speakers include:
- OCTA Chairman Shawn Nelson, also the Board of Supervisors Chairman
- Placentia Mayor Scott Nelson
- Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait
- OCTA Director and La Habra Councilman Tim Shaw
- OCTA CEO Darrell Johnson
WHY: The project is among seven being built along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail line as part of the OCTA’s $630 million O.C. Bridges program. About 70 trains, some more than a mile in length, travel the corridor through Fullerton, Anaheim and Placentia every day. That frequency is expected to climb to 130 per day by 2030, causing major delays for drivers. The overcrossings and undercrossings separate vehicle and pedestrian traffic from train traffic, eliminating the need for cars to stop at rail crossings and allowing drivers to travel more safely and efficiently.
