OC Metrolink and OCTA Bus and the Southern California Railway Plaza Association present the 2014 Railroad Days at the Fullerton Station this weekend, May 3 and 4, 2014, at the Fullerton Train Station, located at 120 East Santa Fe Ave., in Fullerton.
The two-day event will feature train tours, a scenic garden railway and the annual Railroad Safety Poster Contest.. The FREE family weekends offers food, children activities, more than 40 train-related activities and displays, including extensive model layouts in all scales and a scenic garden railway.
The Welcome Center will feature vintage photographs and finely detailed models of historic train depots and scenes along the railways.
Once again, Disneyland is a featured participant that will be displaying railroad equipment, including Locomotive #4, the Ernest S. Marsh, as well… as the Kalamazoo handcar. We know many of you are big fans of Disneyland Resort’s wonderful exhibits and look forward to them every year. If you have any special memories of the Disneyland Resort locomotives at past Railroad Days events, please share them in the comments section!
Another exhibitor is the Carolwood Foundation. This nonprofit group is dedicated to preserving the …legacy of Walt Disney’s personal backyard train, the Carolwood Pacific Railroad. The Carolwood Foundation brought its combine car, Retlaw 1, as part of the historical coupling with Disneyland Resort’s Lilly Belle coach during Railroad Days in Fullerton 2012. This year the Foundation will partner with the Los Angeles Live Steamers and have several large-scale locomotives and cars on display at our Railroad Days. Rail fans and Disney fans alike are sure to enjoy this special exhibit!
This year BNSF is displaying one of their GenSet locomotives. New to Railroad Days, the BNSF GenSet locomotive is an ultra low-emissions, EPA-certified diesel switch locomotive. This locomotive has three… low-horsepower engines that only operate when needed instead of one large engine operating at all times, saving fuel and reducing air emissions. BNSF operates 74 GenSet locomotives in Texas and California.
