ANAHEIM TO PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL CANDLE LIGHTING MEMORIAL FOR ALL FALLEN U.S. SOLDIERS
ANAHEIM, Calif. (April 17, 2014) Honoring our U.S. Military men and women is a priority for the City of Anaheim, and this year the City will participate in the National Candle Lighting Memorial on Saturday, May 17. The candle lighting will take place from 1-2 p.m. at the Anaheim Veterans Monument located at the corner of Anaheim Blvd. and Broadway. All are welcome to attend anytime during the hour to pay respects to all fallen military members. A brief program will take place at 1:30 p.m.
“Our brave military men and women have selflessly protected our country since the time of our Founding Fathers, and it is fitting and right they are forever remembered,” said Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait.
“Every time I meet an active service member I am reminded that freedom is not free,” said Councilwoman Kring. “Here at home we enjoy freedom because someone chose to sacrifice time and demonstrate devotion to his or her country by serving in the military. And some never made it home. It is those individuals that we will honor on May 17. Please join us in a time of remembrance and reflection, and by doing so we let current military know they will never be forgotten.”
The National Candle Lighting Memorial is a movement sponsored by From the Warfront to the Homefront Foundation, in remembrance of every fallen U.S. soldier from the days of the Revolution until now. Across the country, candles will be lit for one hour throughout the weekend.
Parking for the event is available in the parking structure behind Anaheim City Hall (200 S. Anaheim Blvd.), or on Center Street.
