Anaheim Councilwoman Lorri Galloway has invited anti-Mexican radio talk show host Bill Handel, who is featured in the morning drive-time on KFI-AM, to appear at her campaign kickoff fundraiser on March 20, 2014, from 6 pm to 8:30 pm, at the Kraemer Building, located at 201 E. Center St. in Anaheim. (Source – OC Register).
Galloway, a self-described progressive Democrat, apparently isn’t interested in the Latino vote. She is running against a Republican, Mayor Tom Tait, who is himself very popular among Anaheim Latinos. Tait supports ward-specific City Council elections and he has reached out to Anaheim’s Latino residents since he was first elected.
I suppose having Handel speak at the Galloway event makes sense since the leader of the Democratic Party, Barack Obama, did not lift a finger in favor of immigration reform when he was first elected, although at the time his party controlled both Houses of the U.S. Congress. Obama also doubled down on deportations – far exceeding any of the Presidents who preceded him.
Galloway appears to be cut from the same cloth as Assemblyman Tom Daly, who as Mayor of Anaheim developed a reputation for being anti-Latino. He also had a policy of harassing Anaheim’s poorest families, who live in the worst motels in the city.
Daly is now facing a challenge from a popular Santa Ana School Board Member, Cecilia Iglesias, who is both a Republican and an immigrant, from El Salvador. The district Daly represents, the 69th Assembly District, is the most Latino district in Orange County. It is very possible that Iglesias, who was the top vote-getter in the SAUSD School Board races in 2012, will defeat Daly.

Lorri Galloway is pro union not pro Latino
Iglesias will of course be supporting Mayor Tait and the Ward-Specific Anaheim City Council Ballot Measure. So while Galloway imports a racist radio host to promote her campaign, Mayor Tait will be helped by a fellow Republican, in Iglesias, who supports the Dream Act and who is herself an immigrant.
Will the Democratic voters in Anaheim take note of all this? We hope so!
