ANAHEIM’S NEWEST COMMUNITY GARDEN CELEBRATES ITS GRAND OPENING
ANAHEIM, Calif. (October 7, 2013) The newest and fourth community garden in Anaheim, named the Wig Wag Community Garden, is in full bloom and will celebrate with a grand opening on Saturday morning, Oct. 12, from 9-11 a.m. to honor the volunteers and sponsors who built the garden. The Wig Wag Garden is located in central Anaheim, at 428 S. Melrose St., Anaheim, CA 92805. The entire Anaheim community is welcome to attend.
The name Wig Wag was selected by the community to pay tribute to Anaheim’s history. A Wig Wag is a railroad crossing signal and Anaheim is home to Orange County’s oldest Wig Wag located at Santa Ana and Lemon Streets, walking distance from the garden.
The Community Garden Project was first introduced by Mayor Pro Tem Gail Eastman, who in 2012 shared her interest in gardening and recommended it as a positive community building activity. In 2012, three community gardens opened in the east, west and south areas of the City. The Wig Wag Garden also brings together neighbors to share their love of gardening and provides an opportunity for friendships to be formed.
The Wig Wag community garden is proudly supported by Brookfield Residential, Kaiser Permanente, Clean City, Nath Property Solutions, Walmart, and Anaheim Beautiful.
