Sen. Huff to Co-Sponsor Anaheim/Orange County Job Fair
Goal is to Match Job Seekers with Employment Opportunities
SACRAMENTO: Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) is pleased to announce that he is serving as a co-sponsor for the 2013 Anaheim/Orange County Job Fair & Expo. The event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 19th at Exhibit Hall E of the Anaheim Convention Center. The event will run from 10am to 3pm and admission and parking for employers and job seekers is free.
“Connecting employers with qualified job seekers is a proven way to bring jobs and business opportunity to Orange County and I’m pleased to be a part of this effort,” said Senator Huff. “We should remain vigilant about new job and business creation opportunity for all Californians. This state’s unemployment rate is still among the highest in the nation. We’re not out of this downturn yet. We have a long way to go.”
More than 190 employers took part in last year’s Job Fair & Expo, which resulted in more than 600 job offers to qualified candidates. The job fair has attracted more than 27,000 job seekers over the past five years. Nearly 7,500 of them received job interviews and nearly 2,000 were hired as a direct result of the job fair.
Senator Huff says the goal is to bring approximately 200 employers to this year’s free event. The Job Fair and Expo will also feature breakout sessions on résumé building, employment retention and networking. The Anaheim Chamber of Commerce will also promote the advantage of Anaheim’s Enterprise Zone designation.
“The Enterprise Zone is an important state program that offers tax credits to businesses located within these zones so they can hire qualified candidates,” said Senator Huff. “Unfortunately, the Governor has proposed an end to these tax credits in his May Budget revision. I oppose this proposal because these tax credits create badly needed jobs and new business opportunities.”
The Job Fair and Expo is supported by the City of Anaheim, Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, Anaheim Workforce Investment Board, County of Orange, Orange County Workforce Investment Board, Santa Ana Workforce Investment Board, Employment Development Department, Orange County Register, Monster.com, Anaheim Convention Center, Disneyland® Resort, Working Wardrobes, Freeman, Popular Community Bank, Anaheim Public Utilities, Orange County Business Council, Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce, Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce and Irvine Chamber of Commerce.
Employers interested in participating and having a free booth at the 2013 Anaheim/OC Job Fair and Expo should register online at www.AnaheimJobs.com. Job seekers are encouraged to pre-register at www.AnaheimJobs.com to receive important updates and event information.
