ANAHEIM CITIZENS ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON ELECTIONS AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT TO MEET ON THURSDAY, MAY 9
Meeting to be held at Anaheim City Hall Council Chambers
ANAHEIM, Calif. (May 7, 2013) Anaheim’s Citizens Advisory Committee on Elections and Community Involvement (CAC) will meet on Thursday, May 9 and is scheduled to review and approve the Committee’s report on the City’s election system. The final report from the CAC will be transmitted to the Anaheim City Council by May 31. The public is invited to attend the CAC meeting to be held at the Anaheim City Hall Council Chambers (200 S. Anaheim Blvd., Anaheim, CA 92805) beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The Committee began narrowing their recommendations on April 11 and April 18 in which they discussed a variety of options in regard to encouraging voter registration, identifying community groups and leaders to encourage resident participation in local government decision making, and potential changes in the City’s election system.
Steven Lynn, former chair for the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC), will lead the members in the discussion.
Lynn was the presiding officer for the IRC and conducted more than 100 meetings and hearings. In addition, he has worked with community processes, including as an administrator and consultant to more than 50 municipalities in Arizona, Nevada, California and Puerto Rico.
The 11-member CAC, formed on Aug. 10, 2012, will report its findings and recommendations directly to the City Council by May 31, including recommendations on: Potential changes in the City’s election systems; How to encourage voter registration; How to identify and engage community groups in elections and in local government decision making; Language assistance programs; and other techniques to promote full participation in the electoral process.
