PRESS RELEASE, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
(Anaheim, California) The East Street Community Renewal Initiative (ESCRI), an Anaheim community based program is hosting the “Voices of the Community Forum” focusing on the aftermath of the riots and civil unrest of July, 2012. Residents of the Anna Drive neighborhood, the epicenter of the riots, as well as residents of surrounding neighborhoods will join the dialogue about current concerns, changes that have or have not been made, and where do we go from here. It will be held at St. Anthony Claret Catholic Church, 1450 E. La Palma Drive, Anaheim, on Monday, May 6th, from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
Former Anaheim Councilwoman Lorri Galloway and Los Amigos President Dr. Jose Moreno will co-moderate the forum.
Last summer, Anna Drive residents protested the shooting and killing of Manual Diaz by Anaheim police as he was running from them. The world watched the video of residents and police clashing as police fired rubber bullets into the neighborhood crowd and a police dog attacked residents and a baby stroller. The following week, a thousand people converged on city hall protesting the police action and street riots ensued.
In the weeks following the civil unrest, worldwide media covered the Anna Drive area and businesses, churches, community leaders, community groups and individuals offered support. Much of that support has ceased, but problems continue to plague the area.
