CITY OF ANAHEIM NAMES INTERIM POLICE CHIEF

ANAHEIM, CA – (April 24, 2013) Anaheim Deputy Police Chief Raul Quezada will assume the duties of Interim Police Chief effective May 17, it was announced today by Anaheim City Manager Bob Wingenroth. Quezada will follow Anaheim Police Chief John Welter in leading the Anaheim Police Department and its staff of nearly 700, including 351 sworn officers. Continue reading→

It’s that time again – time to make your appointment to donate blood at Angel’s stadium. All of the blood donated helps keep our blood bank supplied through the summer shortages that occur every year. UCI is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in Orange County and much of the blood is used for trauma patients, premature babies and people who are being treated for cancer. In addition, it is important that we have sufficient blood in case of any type of local disaster or emergency situation. Continue reading→

KOMEN ORANGE COUNTY ADDS OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEERS TO 2013-2014 BOARD, APPOINTS NEW PRESIDENT

COSTA MESA, Calif., April 18, 2013 – Susan G. Komen Orange County has announced its 2013-2014 Board of Directors to lead the organization’s efforts this year to provide local breast health services for uninsured and underserved women and men and raise funds for breast cancer research. The Komen board appointed Lynn Jolliffe, Executive VP Human Resources, Ingram Micro, Inc. as new board president and also added two new members.

“Since joining the board in 2011, I have seen Komen Orange County spearhead a number of breast health initiatives and help spur technological advances through its fundraising,” said Jolliffe. “I look forward to leading many of the organization’s efforts this year, including the Komen tissue bank drive in November, the first healthy breast tissue drive west of the Mississippi to help accelerate research and breast cancer prevention.” Continue reading→

Foretelling Anaheim’s future using other city streetcar systems

But wait, there’s more.  The Washington Post editorializes on an Arlington, VA streetcar project that’s attained woofer status.  In part, its streetcars

would make traffic worse and, because they are overpriced, would siphon resources away from other important needs.  Some say that only streetcars can stimulate desired development. Not so. Last July, the Government Accountability Office reported that modern buses can stimulate development just as well as streetcars can. Some cities, like Cleveland, have experienced better development along bus rapid transit lines than has been experienced around the best streetcar system. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA – A registered sex offender was convicted and sentenced to six years in state prison today for sexually assaulting an underage boy after meeting him on Facebook. Chris Glen Phernambucq, 31, Anaheim, pleaded guilty to a court offer of one felony count of contacting a child with the intent to commit oral copulation, one felony count of possession and control of child pornography with prior convictions for possession of child pornography and using a minor to create pornography, one felony count of using a minor for distribution of obscene matter with prior convictions for possession of child pornography and using a minor to create pornography, one felony count of using a minor for commercial sex acts, and one misdemeanor count of oral copulation of a minor. SANTA ANA – A drunken teenage driver was convicted today of murdering a father and son in an early-morning high-speed crash. Rafael Lopez, 20, Anaheim, was found guilty by a jury of two felony counts of murder and faces a maximum sentence of 30 years to life in state prison at his sentencing June 7, 2013, in Department C-35, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. MALE HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER POSING AS A TEENAGE GIRL TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR ENCOURAGING SEX ACTS AND OBTAINING NUDE PHOTOS OF OVER 100 UNDERAGE BOYS THROUGH FACEBOOK

*Law enforcement seeks public’s help identifying potential additional victims and/or witnesses

NEWPORT BEACH – An Anaheim high school teacher will be arraigned tomorrow for encouraging sex acts and soliciting and possessing nude photos and videos of over 100 underage boys by posing as a teenage girl on Facebook. Zachary Joshua Reeder, 30, Orange, will be arraigned on charges of 22 felony counts of using a minor for sex acts, 15 felony counts of distributing pornography to a minor, 13 felony counts of contacting a child with the intent to commit a lewd act, six felony counts of lewd acts upon a child, two felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14, one felony count of possession and control of child pornography, and one felony count of distribution of child pornography. Reeder faces a maximum sentence of 44 years in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration if convicted. He is out of custody on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow, Friday, April 19, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. in Department H-1, Harbor Justice Center, Newport Beach. Continue reading→

ANAHEIM PASSES RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF COMPREHENSIVE FEDERAL IMMIGRATION REFORM

ANAHEIM, Calif. (April 18, 2013) At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, the Anaheim City Council unanimously approved a Resolution in support of comprehensive federal immigration reform. The Resolution encourages the United States Congress to adopt and enact immigration reform based on six main principles, many of which have been outlined by both business and labor groups working in collaboration to promote reform at the federal level.
