Lucille Kring Fails in Court Against Arturo Ferreras

Anaheim, CA Anaheim Councilwoman Lucille Kring failed yesterday in a meritless lawsuit she brought against the Orange County Registrar and Anaheim City Clerk, in which she attempted to force her challenger, South Anaheim Neighborhood Council Chair Arturo Ferreras, to run under an unknown name. The suit was brought without any evidence or legal authority and appears to have been an attempt by Councilwoman Kring to intimidate Arturo Ferreras and his supporters.

The suit alleged that Arturo Ferreras, an immigrant from the Philippines and an Ecumenical Catholic Priest, was using a false name on the ballot, was not a priest in good standing and could not prove he was endorsed by Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait. Kring’s attorneys later dropped the Priest charge. The court dismissed the suit. Continue reading→

69th A.D. Assemblyman Daly challenged by a Latina in the June Primary Election

Assemblyman Tom Daly (D-Anaheim) won’t run unchallenged after all in the June Primary Election. He is going to face a challenger, Ofelia Velarde-Garcia.

I believe that Velarde-Garcia is a Republican. She works for the County of Orange as an Executive Secretary. She is also a notary public. Her ballot title will be “Orange County Executive Aide,” which is not bad. My guess is that Daly will try to challenge that title.

Daly represents the most Latino Assembly district in Orange County – the 69th Assembly District. It is a solidly Democratic seat, with 53% of the voters registered as Democrats. However 52.6% of the voters in the 69th District are Latinos. Continue reading→

Anaheim City Council Ends Controversial Delay On Voting Districts

Voters in Latino-majority district to be included in first elections this November

ANAHEIM, Calif.— The Anaheim City Council approved what has been dubbed “The People’s Map” last week—after nearly scrapping the popular voting districts plan last month.

“Residents have been working for years to have our voices heard in City Hall,” said Martin Lopez, a long-time Anaheim resident and voting-rights advocate. “Now we need to keep showing up to City Council to keep the plan moving forward.” The next meeting of the Anaheim City Council is January 26. Jordan Brandman drops his Congressional campaign with his political career in ruins

Days after Anaheim Councilman Jordan Brandman betrayed his fellow Democrats and Anaheim’s Latino residents by abandoning the effort to develop City Council districts in his city he has dropped his campaign for the 46th Congressional District, according to the O.C. Register.

Brandman was recently reprimanded by the Democratic Party of Orange County when he joined in a 3-2 November Anaheim City Council vote to put the district with a majority of voting age Latino citizens on the ballot in 2018 instead of 2016.

Brandman was one of several Democrats vying to replace U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez, who is running for the U.S. Senate and is vacating her House seat. Continue reading→

It was not a good night for Anaheim Councilman Jordan Brandman, who is also running to replace Loretta Sanchez in the 46th Congressional District. You see Brandman has run afoul of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

Why? Because Brandman did something completely unforgivable when he voted to delay Anaheim’s Third District residents from holding an election until 2018 – an action that disenfranchised Anaheim’s Latino voters.

Jeff LeTourneau led the charge against Brandman at tonight’s Democratic Party of Orange County Central Committee meeting. And his effort succeeded as his party passed a resolution to condemn Brandman by acclamation. The District Elections will go to a second reading on December 8 at the next Anaheim City Council meeting. Continue reading→
