Around 11:17 pm on Monday night, Anaheim patrol officers observed a stolen Acura at Beach Blvd and Orange Ave in Anaheim. The officers attempted to stop the car, but it drove about a block, turned onto a small residential street (Broden St) and stopped in the middle of the street. The driver, Hector Munoz, 27, of Norwalk, refused to exit the car and barricaded himself inside. Announcements were made continually over a public address system for the driver to exit the car, but he refused.
The Anaheim Police Department Tactical Response Group responded and deployed chemical agents (tear gas) into the car. The driver exited the car, but would not show his hands. He was struck with less than lethal munitions, which caused him to comply. He was taken into custody without incident around 1:17 am and was taken to a local hospital for medical clearance prior to booking. He will be booked for driving a stolen vehicle.
The vehicle was stolen from the city of Downey on November 27, 2017.
The suspect’s name is not available at this time.
