Munoz was struck by a 2002 white Ford Expedition traveling east on Ball Road, just east of Gilbert Street, at around 5:20 a.m., in an area of unincorporated Anaheim, according to the CHP.
Apparently the Ford Expedition veered to the right and hit Munoz. Then the driver of the SUV left the scene. Munoz was declared dead at the scene, by the O.C. Coroner.
The SUV was spotted by Anaheim police officers at Ball and Perdino Street. The police officers tried to stop the driver but he fled, resulting in a pursuit that ended in Seal Beach when the suspect driver crashed at Westminster Avenue and Seal Beach Boulevard, near the Naval Weapons Station, at about 5:40 a.m.
The suspect made things worse when he exited his vehicle as he “simulated holding a firearm,” according to the Seal Beach police.
The Seal Beach police officer responded by discharging his firearm – and somehow the suspect was not hit.
The suspect was identified as Jason Roy Rocha, 25, of Riverside. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and hit-and-run.
The CHP is investigating the hit-and-run crash and the Seal Beach police are investigating the officer-involved shooting, according to ABC News.
