SACRAMENTO – Yes, that was Disneyland’s most well-known ambassador, Mickey Mouse, making an appearance on the Senate Floor today. Disneyland Resort’s president, Michael Colglazier, joined Mickey and Sen. Janet Nguyen (R-Garden Grove) in the Senate Chambers today to commemorate SCR 54, her resolution recognizing June 1, 2015 as “Disneyland Day” in California. The resolution marks the sixtieth anniversary of the world-famous resort.
Sen. Nguyen, who after noting that her two sons were going to be very jealous that she got to meet the famous and beloved mouse, issued this statement: “On the floor I often hear members speaking about their district – the best wine district, the best beach district, the best craft beer district. But I have to tell you, I have the Happiest District on Earth.”
Established as a single resort by Walt Disney in Anaheim in 1955, Disneyland has grown to become not only the largest employer in Orange County but, with 28,000 cast member employees, one of the largest single-site employers in the state of California. Further, Disneyland Resort is California’s number one tourist resort destination and an economic engine for the state, generating an economic impact of approximately $5 billion into Southern California’s economy.
