ANAHEIM, Calif. (March 3, 2015) The City of Anaheim is proud to support the Anaheim 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (13th MEU) Adoption Committee’s second annual Semper 5k Run/Walk and Kid’s Fun Run on Saturday, March 21, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Sycamore Park in east Anaheim. All are welcome to participate or attend to cheer on the participants, many of whom are military members or their families and friends, and veterans who have bravely served our country.
The Semper 5k event will also feature a food fest with sweet and savory treats from popular Anaheim eateries – free for Semper 5k participants – as well as a silent auction.
Proceeds from the Semper 5k directly benefit the Anaheim 13th MEU adoption program. On Oct. 9, 2007, the City adopted the 13th MEU to show support for the military personnel and their families, including family financial assistance, holiday events, sporting equipment, and general support for the “Fighting 13th.” Comprised of approximately 2,200 Marines and Sailors stationed at Camp Pendleton and Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, the 13th MEU supports a variety of operations in the Global War on Terrorism.
Online registration for the Semper 5k is $35 and $15 for the kid’s fun run until Monday, March 17. Walkup registration will be available Thursday, March 19 at the East Anaheim Community Center and on the morning of the event at Sycamore Park. Teams/groups of eight or more are eligible for a $5 per entry discount in the 5k run.
Race day awards will be given to top overall male and female finishers, top male and female winners by age group. All participants will receive finisher medals and event t-shirts.
