Subject: Raul Quezada – Police Chief Appointment – January 29, 2014, at 10am
On Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at 10am, Raul Quezada will be sworn in officially as the Police Chief for the Anaheim Police Department. Chief Quezada will be the 33rd Police Chief in the agency’s 144 year history. Chief Quezada’s appointment is a resounding endorsement of his commitment to problem solving and community policing. His emphasis on communication and engaging with residents has gone a long way in strengthening and building relationships between the police and the community.
Chief Quezada started his career with the Los Angeles Police Department in 1993. While employed with the LAPD, he worked in the Patrol Division, Traffic Bureau and the CRASH Unit. In 1996, he was hired by our Department as a police officer. He moved quickly through the ranks from Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain, and mostly recently served as the Deputy Chief under former Police Chief John Welter.
Chief Quezada is a graduate from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Studies. He is currently attending Columbia Southern University where he working towards his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice. He is also a graduate of the California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Supervisor Leadership Institute and POST Command College.
The Department will also see the appointment of Julian Harvey to the Office of Deputy Chief, and recognize the promotions of Ben Hittesdorf to Captain, Jeff Hemerson to Lieutenant, Jonathan Yepes to Sergeant, Adrian Yeo-Hyun Yoon to police officer and Mark Sveinson to Foresencis Supervisor.
This is the first time in the agency’s storied history that someone will be appointed, promoted or sworn-in at every rank.
The ceremony will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center- 3
Complimentary parking is available in Car Park 1. State Senator Lou Correa, Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait and City Manager Marcie Edwards are expected to speak. The media is welcome to attend and interviews with Chief Quezada and all of those being promoted can be arranged prior to or after the promotional ceremony.
