ANAHEIM LAUNCHES WEBSITE TO ENCOURAGE VOLUNTEERISM
Getting involved in the community has never been easier! Visit AnaheimVolunteer.net
ANAHEIM, CA – (April 12, 2013) As part of a new effort to encourage volunteerism this year, the City of Anaheim is launching a website to make it easier for Anaheim residents to connect with local nonprofits on issues important to them and our community. Residents can visit AnaheimVolunteer.net to find volunteer opportunities in the city and to log hours served. This new website serves to support the Year of Kindness initiative announced this year by Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait at his 2013 State of the City address.
Anaheim partnered with San Francisco-based VolunteerMatch to create this customized web portal, and is the first municipality to team up with the organization to create a city-based volunteer website.
“This new website is an important part of Anaheim’s Year of Kindness,” said Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait. “The more we can help residents connect with nonprofits in our community, the better off our city will be. Whether you spend time cleaning up a local park, reading to young children or bringing a senior a much-needed meal, volunteering can change your life. I encourage all Anaheim residents to visit AnaheimVolunteer.net and sign up today.”
Joining AnaheimVolunteer.net is free. Residents can easily type “Anaheim” in the search tab to input their interests and find volunteer openings offered by local nonprofits, churches, libraries, and businesses. Residents can also opt-in to receive email updates of when an event of interest will occur.
Examples of volunteer opportunities include playing music to calm and cheer patients, administrative tasks, outdoor activities, and teaching or assisting with arts programs.
VolunteerMatch strengthens communities by making it easier for good people and good causes to connect by offering a variety of online services. VolunteerMatch works with private businesses and more than 91,000 nonprofit organizations throughout the United States to encourage civic engagement.
