O.C. Board of Supervisors Chairman Shawn Nelson spoke on Wednesday to approximately 60 members of Los Amigos of Orange County, a community group in Anaheim dedicated to helping its members navigate personal challenges in education, immigration, legal and financial issues, according to his latest newsletter.
During a one-hour presentation that included a lengthy question and answer session, topics ranged from the proposed year-round homeless shelter in Fullerton, property taxes, and establishing a veteran’s cemetery in the County.
I am told that Nelson didn’t just show up to the Los Amigos meeting. He spoke then hung out with the members of Los Amigos. He was very well received.
The group meets every Wednesday morning beginning at 7:30 at Jagerhaus, 2525 East Ball Road in Anaheim. Discussion varies from high-level policy decisions such as the current immigration reform proposal to personal requests of assistance.
It is amazing that a Republican elected official would venture into a Los Amigos meeting, as that organization is dominated by Democrats. But this says a lot about Supervisor Nelson. He gets it – just as Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait gets it. They both strive to serve everyone in their communities. We are very fortunate to have a man of integrity, like Nelson, on the Board of Supervisors.
