Mayor Tait will present Anaheim as the “Downtown of Orange County”
ANAHEIM, CA – (March 7, 2013) – Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait will participate in the Mayor’s Institute on City Design this week in New Orleans, La., joining seven other mayors from around the country who were selected to participate in this exclusive symposium. The mayors will be joined by a panel of experts to discuss improvements to urban design in their respective cities, and will bring forth items specific to each city for the purpose of achieving specific community goals through urban design.
Mayor Tait will present Anaheim as the “Downtown of Orange County.” The Mayor will be gathering ideas from the other participants as to how the City can capitalize on existing assets in the Anaheim Resort and the Platinum Triangle to create a dynamic downtown that will attract residents and visitors from throughout Orange County.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to represent the City of Anaheim, and I am honored the Mayor’s Institute selected Anaheim to participate in this exclusive event,” said Mayor Tait. “Anaheim is rightfully considered by many to be Orange County’s sports and entertainment capital. A vital downtown area is fundamental to a city’s commerce and community, and the City of Anaheim provides that and more to Orange County’s residents, businesses and guests.”
Anaheim is the largest city in Orange County, and the 10th largest city in the state of California. More than 25 million guests visit Anaheim each year, with more than 40 million visiting Orange County annually. The Mayor’s Institute on City Design is a National Endowment for the Arts leadership initiative in partnership with the American Architectural Foundation and the United States Conference of Mayors. The two-and-a-half day symposium offers mayors a better understanding of the design of cities. Eight mayors and eight design professionals are invited to each institute, allowing for open dialogue on challenges and opportunities cities face through the perspective of urban design, and how quality design can improve the way a city works and looks.
